Plans and usage
Kiehl is a flat monthly subscription. There is no free tier and no pay-as-you-go. A subscription is required to use kiehl, in the terminal or in the browser.
Sign up
Section titled “Sign up”- Create your account. Go to kiehl.ai/signup and sign in. That creates your account, and it does not ask for a plan or a card yet.
- Choose a plan. Go to kiehl.ai/subscribe, pick Lite, Pro or Max, and pay through Stripe Checkout. If you skip this, kiehl stops your first request with “a subscription is required — subscribe at /subscribe to continue”, and the browser sends you to the same page.
- Use it. Run
kiehlin your terminal. It prints a link and a code; opening the link signs you in (or creates the account, if you skipped step 1). The terminal then keeps its own API key until you remove it.

Usage limits
Section titled “Usage limits”Each plan has a spending allowance, measured in what your requests cost, over three windows at once:

- The 5-hour window is rolling: it always covers the last 5 hours.
- The weekly window resets on Thursdays at 12:00 UTC.
- The monthly window resets on the 1st at 00:00 UTC.
This stops a single long session from using a whole month at once. Because cost depends on which model handles each request, the number of tokens you get varies. As a rough guide, that’s about 2M, 11M and 26M tokens per 5 hours on Lite, Pro and Max.
When you reach a limit, kiehl stops that request and tells you which window it was, for example “5-hour usage limit reached”, with a countdown to when it resets. You don’t need to do anything. Wait for the reset, or move to a bigger plan at kiehl.ai/subscribe.
If a payment fails or you cancel
Section titled “If a payment fails or you cancel”Access follows your subscription. If a payment fails, or you cancel, requests stop until your subscription is active again, and there is no grace period. The browser sends you to kiehl.ai/subscribe, and the terminal shows a billing message.
Changing your plan, your card, or cancelling
